Natural Craft: Eichornia crassipes as the Craft Project Material

Natural craft can be made from plant. Came from South African, Eichornia crassipes is introduced to the tropical area as decorated plant. Lately this kind of plant becomes pollutant for the river because its fast and spread growth. But finally people use this plant for potential craft material that can be used to make many craft goods. Here is a short view of this plant processing.

We need to dry up this plant before used. After dried up this plant’s color becomes quite white. Hydrogen peroxide is used as preservation ingredient for the ready to use plaited Eichornia crassipes. Also it’ll be used for whitening so the plait looks more interesting.

To get maximal result, Eichornia crassipes is boiled first with hydrogen peroxide then begin to the coloring process. The detail process is like this. Boil the water. Insert the hydrogen peroxide, stir with wood ladle. Insert the plant for about 5 minutes, drained. Wash with clean water for 3 times. Then come to the coloring process.

The dye that used is textile dye. Boil the water. Insert the dye while stiring it. Insert the plant to the heated pan. After 15 minutes the color has absorbed, drained and then dip it to the clean water. Use the wood ladle for this process. Then sunbathe it until dry.

The finishing ingredient for the natural plait of this plant is melamine. After the plait has dried and whitened, it is sprayed with melamine so it looks shone.
